With the competition being a lot integrated in daily life amongst people, millennials are hiding their true selves. They tend to lie more about who they are, what they really think and what their capacities are, as an an urge for acceptance and the concealment of rejection. This lying behavior has a damaging effect on trust between people and their self concept. People lie to make themselves feel better. Acting opposite to the actions of who you really are can lead to fear, guilt, shame, aggression, frustration, withdrawal and/or irritability. It also creates distance between people, because we do not trust the other person anymore when they lie. Even lying about the smallest things, like letting someone know their hair looks nice that day, can cause disconnection between people, when the person in dispute finds out it is not the truth.

At Purity we aim for a more transparent society, where showing your vulnerabilities is being celebrated and trust between people are being regained. Our philosophy is: you don't have to be perfect to be pure. Purity is intention. Be truthful with your words and actions. Keep your promises. Purity is perspective. Keep an open mind, and reserve judgment. Purity is principle. Treat others the way you want to be treated. No one is perfect, but we all can be pure. Purity is finding balance and embracing our true selves. In order to reach this, strict measures needs to be taken, to really grab our target group's attention. We want to stimulate millennials to think about their own lying behavior. The way we sometimes take care of things, lie in order to prevent scary situations or to position yourself in a higher status, has damaging effects on trust between people and on our self image. The question arises: ''how honest are you to yourself and to others?'' This question can have a confrontational effect on a person. The goal is to provoke people, and to give them new insights in their own behavior.

Our goal is to start a discussion about (dis)honesty. We do this by creating a tool that millennials will use in their daily life. The product makes it happen that both people in the conversation will be aware when one of the two is lying. This is important, because this will shape the dialogue in a way which creates tension. The consequences of this tension will give the two people, in a conversation, a moment to reflect on themselves and their actions. It does not only bring new perspectives on how we see ourselves, but also how we see others. Is there even someone who we van trust fully in this world nowadays? Let's find out!
